The latest issue of The City University of New York’s (CUNY) online journal Theory, Research & Action in Urban Education focused on #BlackLivesMatter and I’m happy to have my poem, “Immigrant Sings the Blues,” included in this special issue. As the editors point out in their letter to readers, “#BlackLivesMatter is this generation’s social justice call-to-action” – it is a call for us to not only say black lives matter to believe that mantra and to enact it in our work, our writing, art, academia, etc.
Thanks to the editors, José Alfredo Menjivar, Sara Vogel, Sakina Laksimi-Morrow and Robert Robinson for the opportunity to share this space with other conscious writers and artists.
This is also a great way to start off National Poetry Month (US)!
