KAISO! Kindergarten Carnival

My godchildren’s school, La Brea Early Childhood Centre, had a Carnival parade for them yesterday. I think children provide the best space for mas to grow, shine, and to continue some of the important/pertinent traditions. The band was called The Elements: Sun, Stars, Moon & Rain. Incidentally, this is the same kindergarten I attended so they’ve been doing this for more than 20 years now. The parade is just through the streets of the neighbourhood and people who were at home and heard the music would come out to their porches to watch, some even joined. They also went to a school Carnival festival in Penal last week. Mas has moved from the home/community over the years to being a very centralized and industrial affair which has good and bad sides like everything. If the Carnival is a symbol of nation building however, nation building begins at home. Enjoy photos below.
