Its been too long since I’ve done a round up.

  • I’m really digging these Style Icon stories on the Black Girl Long Hair Website. There are so many different approaches to and stories about natural hair and its never about a black woman who hates her hair or is ashamed of it. Check out this interview with Xihanuel from California: Xihanuel Natural Hair Style Icon
  • I stumbled upon this article about the Canboulay re-enactments. Very informative on the riots of the 1800s in Trinidad and about the re-enactment, which i thought was an age old tradition but is actuaaly something relatively new. Rituals of Resistance
  • Here’s a piece on the politics of language and the US Republican primaries. Talk about reading between the lines: The Power of Words: Racially Coded Political Rhetoric
  • I have my problems with the term “feminism” but this is a pretty cool video series I’m Feminist Enough that talks to women about the term and their attachment to it: I’m Feminist Enough Vol 3
  • This piece about Belgium-based South African stylist Pholoso Selegbogo has got me thinking about class/classism actually. Not to say that I think this woman is classist but its just the whole conversation about South Africa and black people and the mention that her mother was a government worker. Is she a “sell out” for moving to Europe and becoming sort of a glitteratti? She does have great style though. Check her out in Italian Vogue: Who’s that girl? Pholoso Selebogo
