- Danny Glover is directing a film on Toussaint Louverture for which he says he was unable to get money for in Europe and the US because there are no white heroes in the movie. That’s not a surprise. Just wish he had been able to find some Haitian actors for the lead roles. I guess having the likes of Don Cheadle and Angela Bassett will bring the audience though. - Last week, I had the chance to interview a group of Merikin descendants. Had never heard of them before. The Merikins are descendants of formerly enslaved African-Americans who escaped to fight with the British in the War of 1812 and were settled in Trinidad thereafter.
